Prof. Manoel Armando Azevedo dos Santos earned a Bachelor's degree from the Bauru School of Dentistry at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1973, followed by a Master's (1977) and PhD (1980) in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the same institution. In 1989, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Biology of Pathogenic Bacteria at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), USA. Between 1977 and 2005, Prof. Santos served as Professor in charge of Basic Microbiology for Veterinary Medicine students at USP and was responsible for the discipline of Microbiology of Anaerobes in the Postgraduate Course in Microbiology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB-USP) from 1980 to 1995. From 1994, he coordinated the Biotechnology Research Center at ICB-USP and later oversaw Mycobacterial Microbiology in the postgraduate program from 1999 to 2005. Prof. Santos also coordinated the Postgraduate Course in Microbiology Applied to the Environment at the Integrated Colleges of Bauru between 2004 and 2015 and served as Coordinator of the Postgraduate Course in Microbiology in 2005. In addition to academic work, he has extensive entrepreneurial experience, serving as Partner Owner of DHX do BRASIL Assessoria Ambiental LTDA, Bauru, from 2008 to 2022, and currently heads the Microbiology/Molecular Biology Laboratory at Solos Solution in Uberlândia, MG.
